Christmas Eve is a time for family and friends.

But many Queenslanders miss out because they are working to keep communities safe and businesses operating over the holiday season.

These are our nurses, paramedics, firefighters and police officers, hospitality, retail, warehousing and fast food workers.

The Queensland Government has proposed to change this by declaring a part-day public holiday after 6pm until midnight on Christmas Eve (December 24).

If your employer requires you to work those hours you’ll be compensated for giving up time with your family, friends or community.

Stand with those workers who give up family time on Christmas Eve to keep us all safe and sound.
