Christmas Eve is a time for family and friends.

Laws to make Christmas Eve (after 6PM) a public holiday have just been introduced into State Parliament today (19 September 2019) by the Palaszczuk Labor government.

Many Queenslanders miss out on Christmas Eve with family and friends because they are working to keep communities safe and businesses operating over the holiday season.

These are our nurses, paramedics, firefighters and police officers, hospitality, retail, warehousing and fast food workers.

Under these new laws, if your employer requires you to work those hours you’ll be compensated for giving up time with your family, friends or community.
