Queensland Unions support International Women’s Day on Monday, 8 March 2021, both celebrating the achievements of women and highlighting the barriers women still face.

IWD started over 100 years ago with a focus on suffrage and equal rights.

In Australia, IWD really took off in the early 1970s with rallies demanding equal pay, equal opportunity, free childcare, free contraceptives and safe legal abortion.

While we have achieved many of these goals,  in 2021 the work of the Union movement continues with issues such as free childcare and preventing and responding to workplace Sexual Harassment.

The international theme for IWD 2021 is #ChooseToChallenge. You can find out more about worldwide events at the IWD website.

Women in Queensland continue to join their unions and we continue to grow and continue to represent the interests and issues of working women.

There are now thousands of events across Queensland this year on and around IWD.  Here are a few of them:

It’s been one year since the handing down of the [email protected] National Report on Sexual Harassment and still we have seen no response from the Morrison Government. The March4Justice is part of a national day of action calling for change.

This is a call out to Brisbane unionists to join the March4Justice rally on Monday March 15 starting at 12 pm commencing at King George Square ending at the Speakers Corner at Queensland Parliament. Check the March4Justice Facebook page for more details.
